Sometimes you find yourself needing a last minute gift for someone. As popular as srubs are, there is no reason you can’t stir up a batch for gifting or even for yourself.
This season of creating memories with family and friends, I bet there are a few people you can come up with who would enjoy a sugar scrub, including yourself.
Let’s head to the kitchen to Make Sugar Scrubs together. Package the scrubs in pretty jars or containers, wrap some ribbon around the rim and create a tag or label.
Sugar Scrubs make great gifts and are so good for your skin.
Here is a recipe for making the scrub mix. Use different herbs for different colors and add your favorite fragrance if desired.
Below are three ideas: Coffee Sugar Scrub, Orange Vanilla or Lemon Rosemary, even Cucumber Aloe.
Let’s get busy!
Gather the jars you want to use. Keep in mind these wil be used inthe shower ot bath so glass isn’t always the best choice. I do, however, use small 4 ounce mason jars or cute plastic food storage containers that can be reused.
Sugar Scrub – Basic Mix
1 part sugar or fine ground salt or a combination of both – remember salt stings on open skin especially after shaving
1 part coconut oil (or other oil if you prefer, such as grape seed or almond oil)
1 part herbal or fruit or combination – see suggestions further on in this post.
Coffee, Brown Sugar Coconut Scrub
Save those morning coffee grounds, dry them out again then grind them super fine. Or you can use instant coffee instead, but keep in mind it will dissolve unlike finely ground coffee.

Mix everything but the oil in a large bowl. Add enough oil to moisten the sugar and make it a scrubby consistency. No extra oil floating around to melt the sugar in your fresh sugar scrub.
Add any fragrance or essential oils – just a couple of drops because you are only making a small batch.

After mixing, test the consistency on your hands to see what, if any, adjustments you need to make.
If giving these away, wear gloves and use a spatula instead of your fingers to test to keep the scrubs clean.
Orange Vanilla Sugar Scrub

Using the basic mix formula, zest the orange, juice it and use both in the mixture. Limit the amount of juice, not much.
Make this sugar scrub by mixing it all together – however, go light on the juice!
Add either vanilla extract, scrape a vanilla bean, or even fine herbs.
Mix together, package and label your fresh sugar scrub.

Key Points, Hints and Tips
- Process everything to a fine consistency to make sure the herbs are fine and not going to be clogging up a drain.
- Scrubs that have large flowers and stuff in them look pretty but really are a pain to clean up after your bath or shower.
- Be careful stepping out of the shower as the floor may become slippery from the oils used.
- Package and label creatively to make a wonderful gift for yourself or someone else.
- Unless you use a preservative in the formula, we recommend storing the scrubs in the refrigerator to extend their life.
- Please use fresh scrubs within 10 days of making.
Be Creative!
Change up the oils, herbs or fruits used. Strawberries, raspberries, kiwi and blackberries all have great exfoliating seeds for visual interest too.
Puree avocado or cucumbers to add to the mix.
Avocado Lemon Sugar Scrub is decadent but must be used right away because the avocado turns brown. Worth it for YOU!
What is the difference between what we sell in the shop vs these?
The scrubs sold in the shop contain other skin nutrients and a preservative which makes them shelf stable up to 6 months.
Fresh scrubs are amazing in that you can use things we can’t when selling online.
