Clean Up! Skin Care Products That Need Your Attention Now

So you want to clean up your skin care – “Go natural,” or “Be Green,” as they say.

If you take a look around and make a list of all the products you use in your home for cleaning, skin care, laundry etc, the sheer number of products we use is overwhelming.

You ask yourself:

“Do I have to replace them all at once? Where do I start – what do I need to consider?”

Well, first of all, I want to reassure you that you are not alone. Millions of people all over the planet are looking at changing their skin care (and home care) to more natural products.

Natural products are better for your skin, your lungs and for the environment

Let’s look at skin care products first – Where to start?

We know that some chemicals can and do enter your bloodstream through topical application.

Skin Care Products wash over your body

The job of scrutinizing every ingredient in the number of daily products the average family uses can be daunting. Instead of tackling the entire project at once, break it down.

Different products mean different levels of exposure and concern. For instance, if you use a lotion all over your body; it soaks into your skin all day. That is more exposure to those chemicals than if you were to use the same ingredients in a face cleanser that is washed off.

Shampoo and conditioner wash over your body when used. It’s not just getting on your hair, but runs down your back, face, sometimes over your eyes and in your mouth.

Start with products that are having the most negative impact

You can be strategic

Get the best ingredients in products that you have a lot of exposure to like shampoo, lotion, bath soaks, or sunscreen.

Then, if you want to, relax your standards a bit for products like hand soap, but good organic hand soap is easy to find these days. (Find one here!)

You don’t have to be perfect!

When you try to be perfect it can be overwhelming and then we get paralyzed. Sometimes we just want to buy something and trust that it is good and won’t cause any harm.

The way to avoid being overwhelmed is to choose when to uphold certain standards and when it’s alright to relax that standard a little bit.

This way you don’t have to worry about every ingredient all the time and you can still improve the overall quality of your beauty and skin care products.

After all, you don’t want to be a research scientist, just buy a body lotion that works and isn’t full of junk

Top products to look for cleanest ingredients:

  • Products used for soaking such as bubble bath or bath salts
    • You have to imagine also inhaling what is evaporating while you soak
  • Anything you apply and do not wash off, such as lotion, face and body creams, and oils
    • The longer it is on your skin, the more problems it can cause
  • Body powder
    • Inhaling fine particulates isn’t good for lungs
  • Shampoo and conditioner, which is a wash off, but has high exposure due to where you use it
    • Think about the way it washes over your face and entire body while using it, sometimes it gets in your mouth and ears
  • Any product you put on your babies and children
    • They are so young and have such tender systems
